COIMBATORE: Collector M. Karunakaran on Monday extended timely assistance to a 63-year-old petitioner, who swooned while waiting for his turn to reach the District Development Council Hall on the first floor to present a petition to him. The petitioner, Krishnan (63) from Pallapalayam in Sulur, had come to the Collectorate to prefer a petition regarding encroachment of his land since 1997. While waiting for his turn, Mr. Krishnan swooned near the staircase, owing to exhaustion. Meeting suspended On hearing about the incident, the Collector, who was receiving petitions from the public, suspended the grievances redress meeting for a few minutes, and came down and spoke to the petitioner. After assuring him to look into his grievance, the Collector shifted Mr. Krishnan to a tahsildar's jeep and had him taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment. Mr. Karunakaran also called up the Superintendent of CMCH and asked him to provide personal attention to the aged petitioner. The Collectorate witnessed a huge turnout of petitioners during the grievances redress meeting on Monday. The police and the officials had a tough time regulating them.
