COIMBATORE: Tirupati (47), a convict prisoner who swooned inside the toilet in the prison, was declared dead on arrival at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Monday. According to prison sources, the prisoner was arrested on charges of robbery and theft and was convicted to seven years rigorous imprisonment. He was lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison on September 30, 2010. On Monday, he fell inside the toilet. Sources said that the death was due to cardiac arrest. Investigations are on. Car catches fire Traffic in Ramanathapuram area was paralysed for nearly an hour on Monday, after a car went up in flames on Nanjundapuram Road at the Junction. Fire and Rescue Services personnel battled for an hour to put out the fire. The police suspect that a short circuit in the electrical system could have caused the fire. Youth held for murder The special teams of the Coimbatore City Police have arrested Jalandhar of Uttar Pradesh in Bangalore in connection with the murder of his roommate, Dilip, on June 6 at Peelamedu. On June 6 night, the workers employed in fixing glasses in an upcoming hotel had a clash in their room when the victim switched on the television set at 2 a.m. Later, everybody went to sleep. In the morning, the roommates found Dilip dead. The police had launched a manhunt for Jalandhar and Ganshyam, the missing roommates.
