TIRUCHI: Over 950 Guest Lecturers in 68 Government Arts and Science Colleges in the State are eagerly expecting the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to recruit the eligible candidates among them for permanent posting. A good number of the guest lecturers who are awaiting a government order for re-joining duty possess Ph.D. and/or a pass in the National Eligibility Test (NET), the requisite qualifications prescribed by the University Grants Commission as an eligibility for permanent posting in colleges and universities. A majority of guest lecturers have put in more than six to seven years of service and are finding it extremely difficult to manage their families with the monthly consolidated salary of Rs.6, 000, according to P. Raja, who was formerly the president of the EVR Government College unit of Guest Lecturers' Association. Referring to the support lent by Ms. Jayalalithaa when the Guest Lecturers went on a massive agitation in 2010 by asking the then Government to act on their just demand for job regularisation, the Association expressed hope that Ms. Jayalalithaa as the CM now would consider their case in right earnest.
