Shimoga: Congress councillors have expressed displeasure against the administration of City Municipal Council (CMC) for its alleged failure to provide information to the public about distribution of sites through Ashraya Committee. K.B. Prasanna Kumar (Congress) told presspersons on Monday that the style of functioning of Ashraya Committee of CMC was not organised. The applicants should draw a demand draft for Rs. 5,000 to be paid towards the CMC to avail the sites under Ashraya scheme. Unfortunately, basic information such as the name on which demand draft needs to be drawn, was not provided by the CMC. The president and Commissioner of CMC have failed to address the problem, he said. CMC president had asked the councillors to furnish a list of 30 beneficiaries from each ward for whom the Ashraya sites could be allotted. The administration was yet to identify suitable land for the purpose, he said. Mr. Kumar appealed to the public not to pay money to Ashraya Committee of CMC till the confusion was cleared. Persons from low-income groups were compelled to visit the City Municipal Council frequently for the information on distribution of sites.
