For a noble cause: Jaipur royal couple Maharaj Narendra Singh and Princes Diya Kumari posing in Western-style dress in Toronto recently. Diya Kumari rarely appears in any other dress than sari.

JAIPUR: Hearts mattered when the Royal Jaipur polo team led by Jaipur royal Narendra Singh played in Toronto this weekend. For the event, “Polo for Heart”, which attracted some 5,000 people at the Toronto Polo Club, was to raise funds for people with heart problems. Moreover, the Jaipur royals won the hearts of the spectators with their amiability.

Narendra Singh was accompanied by his wife Princess Diya Kumari and children. The other players of the Jaipur team were also accompanied by their wives.

“We are very happy to be in Toronto as ambassadors of goodwill from the city of Jaipur. The fact that the funds raised from the polo matches will provide support to cardiac centres is indeed praiseworthy,” said Diya Kumari. The ‘Polo for Heart' event is one of the most prestigious tournaments in Canada with players coming from all across that country. A number of Indians based in Canada also reached there to witness the Jaipur team playing.

The Royal Jaipur polo team comprised well-known polo players Uday Kalan (+4 goal), Ransher Singh (+2 goal), Manu Pal Godara (+4 goal) and Dig Vijay Singh (+1 goal). The Jaipur team played two matches on June 17 and 19.

In the exciting Sunday match, the Jaipur team trounced the Canadian team (Willow Farm) by one goal. The well-known six- handicap Argentina player Nacho Figueras played on behalf of the Canadian team. Nacho is also a famous polo Raulph Lauren Polo model. In an earlier match, the Jaipur team lost by one goal in a well-contested match against Pace Credit Union. The prizes and mementos were given away by Diya Kumari and Narendra Singh.

“It was indeed a memorable evening for us with the members of the royal family of Jaipur and the Jaipur team,” said Yogesh K. Sharma, president of the Rajasthan Association of North America – RANA (Canada), who hosted the Royal Jaipur polo team for the Sunday evening.

On the request of the RANA board of directors, the royal couple agreed to be the honorary patrons of the organisation.
