Municipal Corporation to revive civic helpline

Staff Reporter

System of receiving grievances has also been changed

Officials at zonal level to redress grievances

‘Dial your Commissioner' also to be launched

VISAKHAPATNAM: Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation will revive its civic helpline. B. Ramanjaneyulu, who recently took over as Municipal Commissioner, on Monday said the system of receiving complaints over telephone for civic amenities would be revived and a telephone number assigned to it.

The GVMC earlier had a helpline number (1913) but for nearly two years the number was not available. Now, the system of receiving grievances at the Municipal Commissioner's Office also has been changed.

The applications are now entered in a register (as was done earlier). But before the applicant goes to the Commissioner an acknowledgement is attached to the application. After ordering action on the issue, the acknowledgement is handed over to the applicant.

Mr. Ramanjaneyulu told reporters that the zonal system would be strengthened and officials would be available at zone offices for redress of grievances. Zone offices will be in place by August 15. Also “Dial Your Commissioner” programme will be launched.

Efforts would be made to provide power and water to those living in slums in the corporation limits. While water will be provided by the corporation, power connection has to be given by the EPDCL.

“I spoke to the district Collector about it, and will speak to the CMD of EPDCL,” he said. Provision of power connection would not confer any right on the land, he said.

Mr. Ramanjaneyulu assured residents of Ambedkarnagar at Chinamushidivada in Ward 70, who made a representation to him, that the process for provision of power would continue and he would visit the area to sort out the issue by July 1.
