KOCHI: A multi-disciplinary committee for formulating a plan to address the mosquito menace in Vypeen has been formed. The initiative has come from the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies. B. Madhusoodana Kurup, Vice-Chancellor of the university is the head of the committee. Representatives of various institutions including medical experts, Cochin Port trust, Greater Cochin Development Authority, district administration, Irrigation Department, Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Kerala Forest Research Institute and Kerala State Pollution Control Board attended a meeting held in this regard. Four sub-committees headed by experts have also been formed to address the issue. Studies have revealed the presence of 14 species of mosquitoes in the island.
