We are striving for the revival of rivers in Rajasthan, says Rajendra Singh Thermal, nuclear plants posing threat to livelihood and environment SRIKAKULAM: Megsaysay award winner and environmentalist Rajendra Singh on Monday said it was unfair to construct power plants on wetlands since it would create trouble to thousands of people including fishermen all along coastal region of Srikakula00 Mr. Singh and several leaders of the Paryavarana Parirakshana Sangham toured Sompeta, Kakarapalli and Kovvada areas where power plants were being planned. “We are striving for the revival of rivers in Rajasthan. Here, wetlands are being damaged in the name of development. We will continue to oppose construction of thermal and nuclear plants without the consent of people. Moreover, they are posing a threat to the environment and livelihood of people,” he added. Parayavarana Parirakshana Sangham vice-president Tammineni Seetaram said people were opposing construction of power projects in all the three places. They interacted with local villagers and explained the consequences of the power projects in the district.
