Steps to checkmate Jagan loyalists discussed

Botcha, Kiran hold luncheon meeting

HYDERABAD: Continuing their efforts to isolate Congress MLAs loyal to YSR Congress party, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and AP Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana on Monday discussed further steps.

At a 45- minute luncheon meeting at Secretariat, the two were said to have decided to ask in-charge Ministers of districts to prepare reports within two days about developing alternate leadership in constituencies where Congress MLAs towed the line of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy. Now that the merger of Praja Rajyam with Congress was just a matter of formality, it was also decided that the MLAs representing the former be given the same treatment as Congress leaders. The meeting evaluated the cadre strength of Congress and YSR Congress district-wise, sources said. When contacted, Mr. Satyanarayana said he only talked to the Chief Minister about meetings they decided to have with Congress leaders from districts in batches. They discussed whom to invite for the meetings. These meetings may begin in a week, he added.

In a brief interaction with media persons at Gandhi Bhavan earlier, the APCC chief said a room to conduct video-conferencing with district leaders would be constructed at the premises with permission of the Trust running the Bhavan. He brushed aside the clash between two factions of Congress at Kakinada on Sunday saying it showed the competition within the party.
