Agriculture marketing institute to be set up
Special Correspondent
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday announced that an Institute of Agriculture Marketing would be set up at Panchkula near here for providing the best training in marketing to the farmers and agricultural officers.
Speaking after inaugurating a Kisan Bhawan at Panchkula, he said that there should be a vertical growth in agriculture as the ‘horizontal growth in agricultural production has been achieved and States like Haryana and Punjab are making optimum use of their available land and there is no further scope of expanding the agricultural area.”
“The country is developing at a rate of seven per cent, but in agriculture the growth is 1.6 per cent only and the answer to this problem lies in adopting vertical growth. Haryana is already number one in wheat and mustard productivity, and we are the leading State in milk production. Now, we must adopt modern techniques like green houses, drip and sprinkler irrigation as is being done in Israel,” he added.
Mr. Hooda also called for diversification and increased production of vegetables, fruits and floriculture.
