Bangalore: To achieve the goal of becoming a leading destination for electronics hardware manufacturing industries, the State will set up four electronic hardware manufacturing hubs (EHMH) that will be notified as Special Economic Zones.

According to the new Karnataka Electronics Hardware Policy 2011 unveiled on Monday, each EHMH will be granted 500 acres of land on a 30-year renewable lease “for a very low, attractive fee”. The hubs will be set up on a PPP basis, with State support in the form of a viability gap funding of 20 per cent of the project cost.

The Bangalore-Tumkur hub will manufacture semiconductors, alternative energy, aerospace, medical electronics and embedded systems. The West Karnataka hub (Shimoga-Hasan) will manufacture electronics components, plastics, metal fabrication.

The North Karnataka (Hubli-Dharwad) hub will look at electronics, high tech machining and high tech tooling, while the Mysore-Nanjangud hub will manufacture medical electronics and computer peripherals.

According to the policy, a single window clearance agency of the government will “speedily” handle matters of labour, power and pollution.

Murugesh Nirani, Minister for Large and Medium-scale Industries, also unveiled the Information and Communications Technology Policy 2011 that will facilitate the setting up of an IT Investment Region near the Bengaluru International Airport.
