Tuticorin Corporation to take up beautification work

Tuticorin: Corporation of Tuticorin is according priority to beautification of town under its limits. On either sides of the Buckle Canal, road infrastructure will be developed with lighting facilities. Initially, a two kilometre road would be laid alongside the canal.

Tender has been floated to take up works during the first week of July, according to Commissioner of Corporation, Dinesh Ponraj Oliver. Corporation funds to the tune of Rs. 1.38 crore had been set aside to execute works in the first phase, according to the schedule. Besides, the corporation authorities had taken up works to establish two parks at Ashok Nagar and Devaki Nagar at an estimated cost of Rs.12 lakh.

These parks would be equipped with walking tracks and play fields with materials for children, necessarily. Moreover, the Subbiah Pillai Park at Toovipuram would be spruced. Raised platform would also be constructed on Tuticorin – Palayamkottai road. For the benefit of pedestrians, it would be set up to the extent of the old bus stand from the new corporation office buildings. Efforts would also be made to eliminate hawkers on roadsides, he added.
