Guard shoots boss's business rivals

Bangalore: Four persons were injured when the private bodyguard of a real estate agent opened fire at them during a brawl in Doddakallasandra in Konanakunte on the city's outskirts Sunday night.

Subramanyapura police said trouble erupted after Nagaraj and Devaraj, both in the real estate business, and their private bodyguard Thimmaiah created a ruckus outside the residence of a rival businessman, Munivenkatappa, who was hosting a dinner for his newlywed son.

Nagaraj, Devaraj and Thimmaiah, reportedly inebriated, Munivenkatappa's home and began smashing the windows of the cars parked outside and hurling stones at the residence.

An incensed Munivenkatappa and his friends and relatives rushed out and confronted the trio. When the altercation turned violent, Thimmaiah pulled out his double-barrel gun and fired five rounds at their opponents. Four persons who suffered bullet injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital.

A total of 10 persons, including Nagaraj, Devaraj, Thimmaiah and Muniventakappa, were arrested. Two double-barrel guns were recovered from Thimmaiah. Police traced Sunday's incident to a long history of bad blood between Munivenkatappa on one side and Devaraj on the other. Devaraj, who reportedly feared for his life, had hired Thimmaiah from Kodagu district. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Sonia Narang visited the spot.

Robbed

A chain worth over Rs. 45,000 was robbed from a man at knifepoint near the BDA complex in Nagarabhavi Sunday. Two strangers on a motorbike accosted Dharmendra K.R, a resident of Nagarabavi, and snatched the chain from his neck, the Jnanabharathi police said.
