Resolution seeks bifurcation of existing taluks Demand was a poll plank in Assembly polls KASARAGOD: The district panchayat has asked the State government to set up taluks encompassing the hilly areas of the district, where commercial activities have been booming. The people in the villages in these areas have to travel up to 80 km to reach the taluk headquarters of Kasaragod and Hosdurg (Kanhangad), district panchayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi said while chairing a meeting at the panchayat hall here on Tuesday. In a resolution moved by the member Harish P. Nair, the panchayat sought the bifurcation of existing taluks to create new ones for the hilly areas, an official release here said. The demand for new taluks has been a poll plank of various parties in the recently held Assembly elections.
