KHAMMAM: The one-town police on Tuesday nabbed two alleged thieves and seized stolen cash worth Rs.1.78 lakh from their possession near the railway station here. Producing the arrested duo at a press conference here, Khammam DSP D. Pratap Reddy said that the police team apprehended K. Venkateswarlu, 45, and A. Srinu, 20, while they were moving under suspicious circumstances at the railway station in the morning. The duo, who originally hailed from Nellore district, had settled at Shanthinagar village of Konijerla mandal in the district. They were wanted in connection with two separate theft cases in the town. The duo allegedly robbed G. Narayana Reddy, a retired employee of Ranga Reddy district, of Rs. 2 lakh cash by diverting the latter's attention while travelling in an autorickshaw here on June 13. They were also allegedly involved in stealing Rs. 93,000 cash from a businessman by employing similar tactics at Gandhi Chowk here in April this year. One Town CI P. Srinivas Reddy and other police officials were present at the meeting.
