MANGALORE: The notification of land for the second phase of the Mangalore Special Economic Zone should be withdrawn by July 13, Vishvesha Tirtha swamiji of Pejawar Math said on Tuesday. He said the land which was notified by the government for the MSEZ should be withdrawn as it was difficult for the people to develop their lands or obtain loans against their land because of notification. He “warned” the government to act before the July 13 deadline as he would lose the trust of the people if the government did not heed to his demand. Despite the assurances of V.S. Acharya and J. Krishna Palemar, the district in-charge Ministers for Udupi and Dakshina Kannada respectively, a scientific committee had not yet been formed to look into the issues raised by the people living around the Udupi Power Corporation Limited plant. He said that the government should appoint the committee which should include two members selected by him before the July 13 deadline.
