CHENNAI: Veterans representing the artists' fraternity showered encomiums on playback singer S.P.Balasubrahmanyam and actor Lakshme who were honoured by the Siva Foundation here on Tuesday. Mr. Balasubrahmanyam received the ‘Madhavapeddi Satyam Award', while Ms. Lakshme was conferred the ‘Madhavapeddi Prabhavathi Award'. Singer P.B. Sreenivos said he was extremely happy that two of his favourite artists were honoured. Dedicating a song penned by him, he sang in praise of them, as the audience applauded in delight at the veteran's warm gesture. Singer Vani Jairam said SPB was a not only a wonderful singer, but also a great composer, actor, dubbing artist and speaker. Recalling some of their duets in her evergreen voice, she said it was always a pleasure working with an artist like him. She also spoke of Ms. Lakshme's ability to portray any role with enormous ease. Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali commended the recipients of the awards and said that India had produced some great artists, including Mohammed Rafi, his favourite singerVundavalli Arunkumar, Member of Parliament, Rajahmundry, and Sankar Rao, Vice-Consul, US Consulate General, Chennai, spoke.
