Nod for master plan to improve amenities at temple

Special Correspondent

VILLUPURAM: The Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department has accorded administrative sanction for the execution of the Master Plan for improving amenities in and around Sri Angalamman Temple at Melmalaiyanur in Ginjee taluk.

Speaking at a review meeting held here on Wednesday, Collector C.T. Manimekalai said the master plan envisaged for improving the existing amenities and creating new ones for the benefit of devotees, who throng the temple, particularly on New Moon night.

Though the estimate for the Master Plan was yet to be prepared, need-based works would be taken up one after another, depending on fund availability.

Works under way

As of now, works on the construction of the eastern entrance to the temple, estimated to cost Rs. 17.50 lakh, and the mandapam to provide resting facility to the devotees, estimated to cost Rs. 63.50 lakh, were progressing.

To ensure uninterrupted power supply to the temple, it was also being contemplated to provide a separate power line and a dedicated transformer.

Based on inputs received from the officials and devotees, five transformers had already been installed in the surroundings of the temple and 20 employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board deployed for their maintenance.

On the day preceding the New Moon, the power lines were being checked to avert any possible short circuit.

Ms. Manimekalai also said that on the New Moon day, no buses would be allowed to go beyond the temporary bus stand after 4 p.m.

A proposal had been sent to the Commissioner of Tourism Department for raising a compound wall around the Agni Kulam in the temple to improve sanitary condition.
