Better policing:Superintendent of Police SALEM: The Salem Rural Police have pepped up vigilance against anti-social activities by providing 13 motorcycles which are fitted with revolving sirens and walkie-talkies to its 13 rural sub-divisions. Handing over the two-wheelers to the policemen from respective sub-divisions here on Wednesday, Superintendent of Police N.M. Mylvahanan said that these vehicles should be used in hours of need. The policemen would be deployed at places of public gatherings such as temples, bus stands, railway stations and during peak hour traffic at various places. Schools would be brought under daily monitoring and children would be given extra protection. The policemen on bikes also could be used as escorts for banking operations so that any untoward incident could be avoided. Patrolling would be carried out both in morning and evening even in interior villages to gather vital information about the suspicious movements. Under scanner Dhabas and highway motels would be brought under close watch since there were complaints that they were becoming unlicensed liquor dens. “This, I hope, will play a significant role in minimising the crime rate in the district,” said Mr Mylvahanan. He further said that Highways patrols had been asked to bring down traffic violations on National Highways, which had led to many fatal accidents in the recent past.
