Chikka keeps lead

BANGALORE: S. Chikkarangappa had a fluctuating day with a string of bogeys and birdies to end the day at three over 75 in the Toyota Corolla Altis Southern India Open Amateur golf championship at the KGA course here on Wednesday.

The champion golfer still ended up with a two-stroke lead over his nearest rivals Rahul Ravi and Khalin Joshi.

On a windy day when four others carded better scores , Chikka had four birdies but double bogeys on the sixth and again on the 18th and bogeys on seventh and 13th to fritter away the advantage.

“It was a tough day… my putting was bad and the double bogeys cost me dear. On the 18th when I was looking for a par score, I hit the hazard and then missed a three-foot putt,” he said.

Rahul Ravi and Khalin Joshi had a one over for the up nine and one under for the return to finish with a par score and a two-day aggregate of three over 147.

The top 45 amateurs who shot lower than 17 over 161 will vie for the title in the next two days.

The scores: Top eight after 36 holes: Chikkarangappa 145 (70, 75); Rahul Ravi 147 (75, 72); Khalin Joshi 147 (75, 72); Abhijit Chadha 149 (76, 73); Angad Cheema 149 (75, 74); Kanishk Madan 149 (74, 75); C.G.
