KOCHI: Kerala's S.L. Narayanan and Nimmy George continued their remarkable run in the 49th National Challengers chess championship at Aurangabad on Wednesday, according to information received here. The 13-year-old Narayanan, who is playing as a donor entry as he could not play the State championship earlier, forced top seed Tamil Nadu's IM M.R. Venkatesh to a draw. He had upset two IMs — Orissa's sixth-seeded Anwesh Upadhyaya and Orissa's Somak Palit — in earlier rounds. Meanwhile, the State women's champion, Nimmy, the first woman from Kerala to play in the National Challengers (earlier known as the National ‘B'), defeated Railways' IM B.T. Murali Krishnan. She had surprised TN's seventh seed IM R. Bhuvanesh and held three other IMs, fourth seed Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury, ninth seed V. Saravanan and C. Praveen Kumar, earlier. Narayanan (rating 2167), who started as the 86th seed, is now in the 20th spot, while Nimmy (65th seed, rating 2222) occupies the 22nd place. Both have 6.5 points from nine rounds. Railways' Swapnil Dhopade and Vikramaditya Kulkarni are in the lead with 7.5 points, while Tamil Nadu's Ram S. Krishnan, Maharashtra's Aditya Udeshi and LIC's K. Dinesh Sharma are just behind them with seven points each.
