Four-member gang attacks panchayat president

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Unidentified persons hacked the Vachchakarapatti panchayat President, P. Anantharaman (34), near Agraharam bridge on the Sattur-Virudhunagar highway on Tuesday night.
The police said that four persons, who followed Mr. Anantharaman on two-wheelers, intercepted him while he was riding back home on his bike.
The culprits, who were wearing helmets, sprayed chilli powder on him and later attacked him with knife and machete.
He sustained cut injuries on his legs, hand and back. He was admitted to a private hospital in the town.
