Four sugar units to face prosecution

Correspondent

Kolhapur: Indira Gandhi Mahila Cooperative Sugar Factory, described as the women's first sugar cooperative in the country, is one of the four factories in Kolhapur district to be prosecuted for not paying dues to sugarcane farmers. The other factories are Hemurus Industries Company at Rajgoli, Nalawade Sugar Energy at Mhaluge and Daulat Sugar Cooperative at Chandgad. These factories have to pay farmers Rs. 60 crore.

As dues were not being paid despite farmers' agitations and State government's periodical instructions, Regional Assistant Director P.L. Khandagale issued an order on Tuesday that special auditors should lodge police complaints against the directors of the factories.
