Bomb hoax creates flutter at GH

Staff Reporter

KARUR: Patients, public and medical professionals went through a harrowing time at the Government Hospital here on Wednesday following a postal threat to blast the premises, if certain demands were not met.

Sources said a letter addressed to the Resident Medical Officer of the GH demanded the release of MP Kanimozhi, and implementation of uniform mode of school education. Failing which, bombs planted in some places at the GH would go off by 2 p.m. on Wednesday. GH officials contacted the police who rushed in with bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs to the hospital premises.

After thorough inspection of the area, it was found that the letter was a hoax. Heaving a sigh of relief, the police teams withdrew leaving the patients and the doctors to their course of treatment after two hours of high drama. Police pickets were posted in the GH premises as a precautionary measure.
