Water released from Vamsadhara canal

Kharif time:Srikakulam district Collector G. Venkatram Reddy releasing water from the Vamsadhara left canal at Gotta barrage on Wednesday.

SRIKAKULAM: District Collector G. Venkatram Reddy on Wednesday released water from Vamsadhara left canal for kharif crop.

He said about 1.45 lakh acres in Vajrapukotturu and Palasa mandals would get water with the release.

In a couple of days, the Irrigation Department will release water from the right canal to irrigate 85 acres of land. According to him, an additional 19 tmcft could be stored after the completion of Hiramandalam Balancing Reservoir.

Granite quarries

The government would initiate stern action against illegal granite quarries, Mr. Venkatram Reddy said, and added that anyone could directly provide him information about illegal mining in the district.

Later, he inspected the works being taken up under National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme. The Collector asked workers not to migrate to other places as the government was providing them work in their native villages.
