Valid points: Actor Salim Kumar and director Salim Ahmed at a meet-the-press in Kozhikode on Wednesday.— Kozhikode: Actor Salim Kumar, who recently won the National and State awards, has said that the award instituted for ‘best comedian' is a dishonour to any actor. Speaking at a face-to-face programme of the Kozhikode Press Club on Wednesday, he said there was no point in giving award for ‘hasya' (humour) alone, as actors who focus on the other eight ‘rasas' (emotions), including ‘beebhatsa' (odiousness) and ‘sringara' (amorousness), would feel bad. On the other hand, a comedian was as good as any other actor and was worthy of the best actor title, he said. “The State government should not give the best comedian award anymore. I am proud to be a comedian and have accepted the best comedian award from TV channels many a time. That is a different matter altogether. For private organisations, it is just part of business promotion,” Mr. Salim Kumar added. Adaminte Makan Abu, the film that won him the national and State awards for the best actor, will be released across the State on June 24. Director Salim Ahmed said there were proposals to remake the movie in other languages, including Hindi, but nothing was confirmed yet. Alavikkuty, a 71-year-old farm labourer from Valiyad Kodur in Malappuram district, too attended the press meet. Mr. Salim Kumar is sponsoring him for his Hajj trip this year in memory of his award-winning character.
