Nannaya varsity to hold classes on own campus

Services of APIIC to be utilised for infrastructure development

Alternative energy sources will be tapped to save power, says in-charge V-C


RAJAHMUNDRY: Adikavi Nannaya University will conduct classes on its campus at Velugubanda from this academic year, in-charge Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao has said. Presently, the classes are being conducted in Government Arts College and other buildings.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Prof. Appa Rao said the authorities decided to launch the campus by constructing multipurpose sheds.

These sheds would be constructed as per the master plan. They would initially be used as classrooms and latter for hospital and other requirements, he said. The services of APIIC would be utilised for infrastructure development.

Prof. Appa Rao said city buses would be provided to enable students from Rajahmundry to attend the classes.

On financial resources, Prof. Appa Rao said the State government and the UGC had agreed to release Rs.5 crore each. “The UGC has released Rs .2.50 crore and the remaining amount will be given after the State government releases its share,” he said.

MP's gesture

The in-charge Vice-Chancellor said Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar had agreed to sanction Rs.1 crore from the MPLAD funds. Rajahmundry MLA R. Suryaprakasa Rao and MLC Kandula Durgesh had agreed to release Rs.10 lakh each from the constituency funds for the development of the university, he added.

“In order to save power, alternative energy such as solar energy will be used for the university,” Prof. Appa Rao said.

Earlier, the Godavari University Sadhana Samiti members felicitated Dr. Appa Rao. Mr. Arun Kumar, APIIC Chairman S. Sivarama Subrahmanyam, and Mr. Suryaprakasa Rao greeted the in-charger Vice-chancellor on the occasion.
