‘Olympic Day Run' today

KAKINADA: Over 10,000 persons are expected to take part in the Olympic Day Run to be organised all over the district on Thursday.

The East Godavari District Olympic Association is making arrangements to conduct the annual event at 12 places, including the city, Amalapuram, Rajahmundry, Razole, Pithapuram, Tuni, Jaggampeta, Samalkot, Kirlampudi, Mandapeta, Mamidikuduru, and Ramachandrapuram at 8 a.m. sharp.

The run will be launched at the District Sports Authority stadium here by district Collector M. Ravi Chandra, in which district Superintendent of Police C.M. Trivikrama Varma, Zilla Parishad Chairman Ch.S. Venugopala Krishna, and MLAs D. Chandrasekhar Reddy and Kurasala Kanna Babu will participate. It will proceed towards Bhanu Gudi Junction before culminating on the lawns of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK), where Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao will receive the torch.

Review meet held

Reviewing the arrangements here, chairman of the association Y.D. Rama Rao, secretary K. Padmanabham, and convener P. Chiranjeevini Kumari said that participation certificates would be given to all the participants and about 10,000 certificates were being distributed to all the centres.

The association would provide drinking water and snacks to the participants at all the centres and there were no restrictions such as age and sex. “This is going to be the 25th edition of the Olympic Day Run in the district being organised by our association,” Mr. Rama Rao said.
