Woman stabbed to death, son injured

Special Correspondent

KANNUR: A woman was stabbed to death and her son sustained stab injuries when a man attacked them at Kunnathurpadi, near Payyavur here, on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as E.V. Gracy (45). Her son Jibin (22) has been admitted to a hospital at Taliparamba. According to the police, M. Benny, 42, a distant relative of the deceased, visited her house in the morning. There was an altercation between Benny and Varghese, Gracy's husband. In a fit of rage, Benny stabbed Gracy and later Jibin, the police said. They added that the attack was apparently in retaliation of the couple's alleged rejection of Benny's proposal to marry their daughter.

Though Gracy and Jibin were rushed to hospital immediately, the former died on the way.

The police said search was on to arrest Benny who had fled from the spot after the attack.
