COIMBATORE: As industries expand, new houses come up and tall retail buildings dot the Coimbatore roads, the revised Coimbatore Master Plan will soon reflect the recent developments here. The bulk of the response from the public for the revised Coimbatore Master Plan is for reclassification of land. The Local Planning Authority here has received nearly 3,000 applications for modifications or objections to the Coimbatore Master Plan that was reviewed. An official of the authority here said this was an overwhelming response and most of the applications were for land reclassification for different uses such as residential and industrial. Usually, when a Master Plan was taken up for review, just a few hundreds of applications would be received. It was more in Coimbatore since development was rapid and the plan was taken up for review after nearly 15 years. Review The Coimbatore Master Plan was approved in 1992. It was taken up for review recently and the State Government gave its review consent in January this year. The plan was open for the public to submit their objections and modifications for two months. The Authority is now scrutinising the applications received and during the last 20 days, it has completed verification of nearly 1,000 applications. The review plan will be submitted to the Planning Authority Committee after the changes are made and then to the Government. An official of the Directorate of Town and Country Planning added that the proposal to expand the Local Planning Authority area was waiting for Government notification. Only after receiving the approval, the Master Plan for the extended area would be prepared.
