TIRUCHI: As many as 15 new bridges would be built along various rural roads in Srirangam constituency by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj. The foundation stones for the bridges, sanctioned at a total cost of Rs.21.53 crore, were laid by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during her recent visit to Srirangam. The construction of the bridges would improve connectivity of several villages across the constituency. Of these, five bridges would come up in Manikandam union, five in Manapparai and four in Andhanallur union. Two new bridges would be built across the Ariyar River, both in Manikandam union. While one of the bridges would be built across the river along the Alampattipudur-Melur Road at an investment of Rs.4.30 crore, the other bridge would be built along the Allithurai Road at a cost of Rs.1.28 crore. A new bridge would be built across the Uyyakondan River at Ayilapettai in Andhanallur union at a cost of Rs.4 crore. Another bridge would come up across the river on the Iniyanur Road in Nachikurichi panchayat in Manikandam union at a cost of Rs.80 lakhs. The department has also been sanctioned Rs.90 lakhs for building a bridge across the Avooran River in the same union. The Ariyavur Road branching off from the Allithurai-Thogamalai Road would be strengthened with the construction of a major bridge at an estimate of Rs.5.60 crore. A link bridge on the Perur-Mekkudi Road would be constructed at a cost of Rs.1.45 crore. These apart, new bridges would come up on the Kadalur-Maruthandakurichi Road (Rs.2 crore); on the Kathikaranpatti/Chinnasumdiram Road (Rs.32.42 lakhs); at Nadutheru on the Nachikurichi Nadar Chathram Road in Manikandam union (Rs.20 lakhs); on the Kannudayanpatti Road (Rs.3 lakhs); Chitthanatham Road (Rs.10 lakhs); at Nangu Nagar in Manapparai Union (Rs.5 lakhs); on Gandhipuram Pettavaithalai-Ellakarai Road (Rs.40 lakhs) and on the Samudiram Road (Rs.5 lakhs). In addition to these works, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for constructing a bridge across the jungle stream on the Maravanur-Kottapatti Road, sanctioned at a cost of Rs.50 lakhs.
