MANGALORE: As part of Vanamahotsava-2011 held in the New Mangalore Port, 400 saplings were planted on Wednesday, said a press release. The saplings were planted as part of an initiative called “A Clean and Green Port.” The port plans to plant 10,000 saplings in 2010-11, along with other measures to minimise environmental pollution. P. Tamilvanan, Chairman, New Mangalore Port Trust; T.S.N. Murthy, Deputy Chairman, NMPT; C.D. Kumar, Senior Environmental Officer of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB); Palaiah, Deputy Conservator of Forest; students and teachers of Meenakaliya High School; residents of Meenakaliya village; and port employees participated.
