KARIMNAGAR: Collector Smita Sabharwal conducted a whirl-wind tour of Shankarapatnam, Huzurabad, Elkathurthi, Veenavanka and Jammikunta mandals on Wednesday to inspect the functioning of primary health centres (PHC), government schools and Balahita Anganwadi centres. During her visit to the PHCs, she informed the authorities to gear up for the launch of the ambitious SMS alert system for pregnant women to ensure that they regularly visit the hospital reducing mother and infant mortality rate. She also interacted with school children and inquired about the food served during the midday meal scheme. She spent time with children of Balahita Anganwadi centres where teachers were imparting English medium education to the children in a play-way method.
