OU degree pass percentage dips

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The loss of instruction days due to agitations last year seems to have had its effect on the degree results of the Osmania University (OU) that dropped by nearly six per cent this year. Pass percentage this year is just 49.97 while it was 55.86 per cent last year.

OU Vice-Chancellor D.N. Reddy admitted that the loss of instruction days perhaps was one of the reasons for decline in pass percentage. “We have asked the principals to ensure that classes are not missed this year,” he said, adding that all efforts would be made to improve the pass percentage next year.

Releasing the results here on Wednesday, Prof. Reddy said that pass percentage in B.Com was more at 51.36 while it was 49.53 in B.Sc. and 46.79 in B.A courses. The drop in pass percentage was across the streams this year. Pass percentages of first year and second year students, however, was more than 90 per cent.

In all 2,19,335 candidates comprising 1,18,906 boys and 1,00,429 girls appeared for examinations of all three years. In the BA course 31,773 appeared for exams while 1,01,596 appeared for B.Com and 85,966 students appeared for B.Sc. courses. In the final year, 70,620 appeared of which 35,289 cleared the exams.

The results are also displayed at the Examination Branch. The results along with marks are also available on the websites: http://www.osmania.ac.in,
