Two die of leptospirosis in Kottayam district

One confirmed case of H1N1 reported

KOTTAYAM: The district, which had so far been comparatively free of monsoon-related epidemics, appears to be facing a new challenge with two cases of leptospirosis deaths and a confirmed case of H1N1 being reported on Wednesday.

District authorities said that the H1N1 case was reported from Kottayam District Hospital. The patient is a minor.

The second case of death due to leptospirosis was reported from Kiliroor.

The victim who was admitted to the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital was moved to a private hospital two days ago. The first leptospirorsis death was reported from Elikulam early this week. In addition, there are at least four confirmed cases of leptospirosis, authorities said. Outbreaks of dengue fever in Kottayam taluk, chickenpox in parts of Meenachil taluk have also been reported. Meanwhile, the number of people seeking medical help for viral fever is also on the rise.
