Basaveshwaranagar to be greener

BANGALORE: In what comes as good news for residents of Basaveshwarnagar, the ward has been gifted four acres for a “mini forest”. A tree planting drive, aptly titled Vanamahotsava at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose playground here on Wednesday, was organised by the Sri Padmaraj Socio-Cultural and Sports Forum, headed by Basaveshwarnagar ward councillor H.S. Padmaraj. Urban Development Minister S. Suresh Kumar set the ball rolling by planting a sapling. Nearly 500 trees — each one of them with medicinal value — will be planted and nurtured on four acres of vacant land on the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike playground. The remaining land will remain as a playground.
