KOCHI: A police officer was placed under suspension for his failure to take prompt action against the culprits who allegedly assaulted a woman IT professional near the NGO quarters here on Sunday. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police at the Thrikkakara police station Mohan Tampy was suspended on the instructions of Director-General of Police Jacob Punnoose. It was reported that one of the accused was allowed to walk free after being arrested. The punitive action was on account of the officer's failure to take suo motu action against the accused on the information provided by the victim. The victim, working for a firm operating out of the Cochin Special Economic Zone, filed a formal complaint only the next day as she was shocked by the incident. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the police had located the houses of the accused. The police are on the look out for one of the accused, who had reportedly gone hiding after the incident. The victim was allegedly assaulted by a group, including an autorickshaw driver, while she was on her way to duty along with a male colleague.
