Bangalore: Ahamed Ayub B., Deputy Director-General of the National Sample Survey Regional Office, has said that the 68th round of socio-economic survey on ‘Consumer Expenditure, Employment and Unemployment' will be carried out from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. A four-day training programme for the technical field staff who will conduct the survey began in Bangalore on Monday. Over a hundred staff members from the National Sample Survey offices of Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore and Shimoga are participating in the training programme being held at the Kendriya Sadan. Data Mr. Ahamed Ayub said the data of the survey could be used by the Union Planning Commission and other agencies as well as research scholars and planners. Vijay Kumar, Deputy Director-General of the Data Processing Centre in Bangalore NSS office, said literacy among the respondents was a problem in collection of data. “While ignorance was a bottleneck in the past, now the public do not want to share any information. The skill of the field officials will be put to test while collecting the data from the public,” he said. U.R. Subramanya, Joint Director of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, underlined the need to put to use the data made available after the survey. K.P. Unnikrishnan, Deputy Director-General of the South Zone, said as part of the survey, information on utility of the Indian system of medicine would be collected.
