The annual income limit of SC and ST students increased from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.2 lakh Fee reimbursement dues will be cleared before July 30, says Minister HYDERABAD: Over 2.4 lakh students who applied for post-matric scholarships and fee-reimbursement for 2010-11 will be disqualified if they do not submit relevant certificates by July 15. A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet Sub-Committee on fee-reimbursement scheme which met here on Wednesday. It had earlier set June 15 as the deadline for the students pursuing various courses to submit the caste and income certificates as proof to avail the scholarships and tuition fee amounting to Rs.350 crore. Social Welfare Minister Pithani Satyanarayana, Tribal Welfare Minister P.Balaraju, Transport Minister and PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, Revenue Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy and officials from the departments concerned attended the meeting. Last chance Briefing media persons later, Mr. Pithani Satyanarayana said that the committee resolved to give a final opportunity for the students to furnish the required certificates to their respective college managements. Among the 2.4 lakh students who applied for the scheme, 90,000 were intermediate students, 12,000 were engineering and other professional courses students, 50,000 degree and about 30,000 post-graduate students. The Cabinet sub-committee increased the annual income limit of SC and ST students from Rs.1 lakh to Rs.2 lakh in line with the Centre's decision. Case against college In the wake of incidents of misuse of scheme by some managements and students, exclusive vigilance and enforcement teams would be constituted to keep a watch hereafter, Mr. Satyanarayana said. He cited a case where a Visakhapatnam based private pharmacy college showed eight ST students studying in Adilabad as their students. Criminal action was initiated against the college management. Meanwhile, the online registration for the renewal of post-matric scholarships for 2011-12 would commence from July 1 and end on 31.On fee-reimbursement dues for 2010-11, Mr. Satyanarayana said of Rs,3,700 crore, Rs.2,100 crore had been released. Another Rs.1,000 crore would be released during this month and balance before July 30.
