Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court has ordered issue of notice to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and State government on a petition filed by a batch of students seeking refund of fees paid by them to the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) for the MBA course. Justice S. Abadul Nazeer, who heard the petitions by Praveen V. Mesta and others, adjourned hearing to July 4. The students, in their petition, have sought direction of the court to the authorities concerned to initiate action either to de-recognise or close the IIPM branch in Bangalore complaining that the institute was not providing them with its details like registration, recognition and affiliation. The students were admitted to the two-year MBA programme in planning and entrepreneurship management. During the hearing, the High Court also wanted to know how film actor Shahrukh Khan was connected with the institute. It said the prospectus of the institute has his photographs on it. Artist's plea The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed S.K. Venugopal, a nagaswaram and flute artist who was working in Kukke Subramanya temple in Sulya taluk to submit an affidavit by next week assuring that he would work with good conduct. The court also asked the temple authorities to inform it whether they are prepared to employ him again. He was removed from his job in 2009 as he was found consuming alcohol on the temple premises. He had also played a Hindi song during puja in the temple. An appeal filed by him came up for hearing before the Division Bench. The Division Bench said that it can consider to ask the temple authorities to reemploy him if he submits the affidavit, but he could be removed from the job without notice if he repeats his past mistakes. Venugopal said he had not consumed alcohol for the past two years.
