Move to close down Kannada-medium schools in Solapur opposed
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Condemning the Maharashtra Government's reported move to close down all Kannada-medium schools in Solapur and surrounding areas, members of the Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha staged a protest outside the Kempe Gowda bus station here on Wednesday.
The protesters poured water over an effigy symbolising the Maharashtra Government and raised slogans against it. President of the party Vatal Nagaraj, who led the protest, said there were more than two crore Kannadigas outside Karnataka and alleged that they were being ill-treated.
“They are being denied their rights,” he said. He urged the Union Government to ensure that no Kannada-medium school in other States were closed down. “If our demand is not met, we will launch a Statewide agitation,” Mr. Nagaraj added.
