Fee structure: many schools violating panel recommendation, says PMK

Staff Reporter

Tirupur: Members of Pattali Makkal Katchi staged a demonstration in the city on Wednesday asking the officials concerned to ensure that schools in the district strictly adhere to the recommendations of the Private School Fee Determination Committee headed by Justice K. Raviraja Pandian.

“It is quite unfortunate that many school managements have been found violating the Committee's recommendations and charging excess fees from the students at their will,” PMK state deputy general secretary C. Vadivel Gounder said.

The PMK men wanted the schools to display the fee structure on its respective premises so that transparency in the levy of fees could be maintained.

“The excess fees collected should be returned to the students immediately and action should be taken against the schools which violated the rules,” Mr Vadivel Gounder said.

He was of the opinion that the government should take over the private schools which resisted to implement the fee structure of the school fee committee.

Memorandum

Meanwhile, a group of students from a private arts college situated near Kangeyam submitted a memorandum to the Collector, M. Mathivanan, on Wednesday afternoon seeking intervention of the administration into the functioning of the institution.

The students complained of poor teacher to student ratio and non-functioning of the library for the past 10 months, among other issues.

They also had the grievance of excess tuition fee being levied from them.
