Protest over ‘truth test'

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Calling the June 27 ‘truth test' at Dharmasthala “anti-constitutional and anti-democratic,” around 100 students and members of the Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Thinkers' Forum protested in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Anand Rao Circle here on Wednesday.

“Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy should not take an oath in the name of any deity or temples.

Instead, they should take the oath in the name of humans and the Constitution of India, because the Constitution is our temple,” said P.S. Shivanna, chairman of the forum in Karnataka. He alleged that both leaders were corrupt during their terms as Chief Minister. Speaking at the protest, G.K. Govinda Rao, social activist, and N.V. Narasimhaiah, former chairman of the Backward Classes Commission, said the challenge that Mr. Yeddyurappa had thrown at Mr. Kumaraswamy was “shameful”. Mr. Narasimhaiah said, “There should have been scientific temper in the matter.”
