Plea to reduce third party insurance

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: Coimbatore District Auto Workers Union has called for reduction in the third party insurance which was recently increased. In a statement, the union said that the district has over 10,000 autorickshaws and many families are dependent on the income generated out of it. But due to hike in cost of petrol and diesel, increase in cost of spare parts and maintenance and competition from call taxis and share autos, passengers using autos has considerably gone down. The third party insurance, which was earlier Rs.1,663, was increased to Rs.3,000. They requested the State Government to reduce the third party insurance and pave way for their livelihood.
