Sai trust: State seeks report
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD: Taking serious view of the spate of allegations against the functioning of Satya Sai Seva Trust and clandestine transport of cash, the Andhra Pradesh government sought a detailed report from the Trust on Friday.
This followed an emergency meeting conducted by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy with Endowments Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, which was attended by Ministers Raghuveera Reddy and S. Shailajanath belonging to Anantapur district.
The Chief Minister sought a detailed report about the affairs and finances owned by the Trust.
Disclosing the details to media persons, Mr. Lakshmaiah said that the government's intervention became inevitable now because of internal differences among the Trust members.
Speaking to The Hindu, he said that the issue related to sentiments of people. Further action, if any, would depend on the receipt of the report. The Trust was given exemption from the Endowments Act in 2010 for another 10 years but following the disturbing reports in the media, the government was constrained to seek a factual report, he said.
The government action about seeking a report comes close on the heels of notices served by the police to two members of the Trust.
