KCWC warns of stir if its demands are not met 25% bonus sought for cashew workers KOLLAM: Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) leader and Kerala Cashew Workers Congress (KCWC) State president V. Sathyaseelan has called upon the State and Central governments to take steps to establish a National Cashew Board in Kollam. Inaugurating the State-level delegates' session of the KCWC here on Wednesday, he said a board was necessary for the comprehensive development of the sector. The elected representatives from the State should exert pressure on the Centre for the purpose. Cashew workers are entitled to a six-day dearness allowance (DAs) each week. A majority of employers had been giving only two to four DAs, he said. The previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had ignored the employees' pleas in this regard. The Labour Department should take strong action or the KCWC will launch a strong agitation, he said. The government should declare a bonus of 25 per cent for the cashew workers this year and hike their salary, he added. KCWC leaders will meet the Chief Minister, and the Ministers for Finance and Labour. INTUC leaders Mangalathu Raghavan Nair and A. Rahimkutty spoke.
