Protest against delay in clearing garbage in Kasaragod

Staff Reporter

Against garbage menace:K. Surendran, general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party State unit, leading a march to the municipal building in Kasaragod on Thursday demanding clearing of garbage from the Kelugudde grounds.

KASARAGOD: Various organisations have raised protest against the alleged lackadaisical approach of the municipal corporation towards garbage disposal.

Residents of Kelugudde, where heaps of garbage from the town is dumped, on Thursday blocked the vehicles carrying waste. They complained that rainwater from the uncleared heap of garbage seeped into the roads and water bodies in the locality. This has resulted in piling up of waste within the city.

The Municipal authorities have purchased land at Kollangana in nearby Madhur Panchayat to dump the waste. However, the residents in the locality have stiffly opposed the move.

Activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday took out a protest march to the Municipal office to press the demand for a solution to the issue.

The march was led by party State general secretary K. Surendran.

The CPI(M) has also planned a march in protest against the municipal administration's attitude.

The District Collector has convened a meeting to find a solution to issue.
