dated June 24, 1961: Apartheid policy

The Resolutions Committee of the 45th International Labour Conference in Geneva on June 23 voted that South Africa should withdraw from the world labour body. The resolution must now go before the plenary Assembly of the Conference for final adoption. The resolution in its preamble says: South Africa's apartheid policy “subjects indigenous African citizens to racial discrimination to their economic and social disadvantage.” After the vote, Mr. T.E.A. Salubi, the Nigerian Government delegate, said: “We want to see South Africa change its policy of apartheid and give equal opportunity to all races living in the Republic.”
