Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: A married woman was allegedly gang-raped by three youths at the Simhachalam railway station here in the wee hours of Thursday.

Labourers

The 30-year-old woman came to the city along with her husband and a few other relatives from Mahabubnagar a few months ago in search of work. They were all engaged as manual labourers.

The victim, her husband and two other relatives were sleeping at the railway station when some youths managed to take her away to a nearby room and gang-raped her, according to Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector J. Murali.

Taken into custody

Government Railway Police DSP C. Harshavardhan Rao said three youths, who were petty vendors at the station, and a woman sweeper, who assisted them in committing the crime were taken into custody. Four others, who helped the accused, were at large. The victim was sent for medical examination.
