7 killed in two road accidents

MANGLED MESS:The ghastly accident that occurred at Vengalraju Kandriga near Vadamalapet on Tirupati-Chennai highway in the early hours of Thursday.

TIRUPATI: Seven persons were killed in two major accidents in Chittoor district on Thursday.

In a ghastly accident that occurred around 3.30 a.m. on the Tirupati-Chennai national highway, five persons were killed on the spot when their four-wheeler collided head on with a heavy vehicle at Vengalraju Kandriga village between Gajulamandyam and Vadamalapet. While trying to overtake a sand-laden lorry, the SUV rammed the heavy vehicle carrying iron girders.

Sandwiched

The sand-laden truck following it also hit the SUV. The four-wheeler was sandwiched between the two heavy vehicles.

The SUV was reportedly carrying 17 passengers and was proceeding to the Subramanya Swamy temple at Tiruthani, across the Tamil Nadu border.

Victims

Naveen (21), Deeksha Babu (23), K. Suri (21), K. Rajesh (19), and G. Raju (42) died on the spot, while E. Raja succumbed while undergoing treatment at the Ruia Government General Hospital. The condition of Vikram was stated to be critical. According to the Gajulamandyam Sub-Inspector Balasubramanyam, all the victims were residents of STV Nagar in Tirupati.

Teacher killed

In another accident in Kalakada on the Chittoor-Kadapa highway, M. Reddykumar Reddy (32), a native of Kothagandlapalle in Kalakada mandal and working as a teacher in a private school in Mangalapalle, died on the spot when his motorcycle was hit by an APSRTC bus proceeding from Rayachoti to Piler.
